songwriter - guitarist - song - music

Michael Mazzarella has penned hundreds and hundreds of songs over the course of his career, beginning in the 80s with The Broken Hearts, then onto his cult power-pop-rock band The Rooks and then later, extensive releases as a solo artist, including Kool Kat Musik’s 5-disc career retrospective set Songwriter.

His songs have been included on definitive compilations that showcase the power pop genre, such as Ace Records’ Come On Let’s Go! Power Pop Gems… and Rhino Records’ Poptopia! Power Pop Classics of the 90s.

Always with an emphasis on melody and harmony, Mazzarella’s work bridges the worlds of solemn ballads, baroque fairy-tale pop, driving rock, indie acoustic folk, moody power pop, churchy choir hymns, and melancholic lo-fi with an occasional dash of wall-of-sound, 60s-psych jangle, lullaby, pseudo-40s jazz, whimsical ear candy and more, to invoke a sound all his own.

Many of his songs have been placed in popular network TV shows and independent films, and he’s produced numerous other acts during his career.

This deep catalog includes the original songs with vocals, as well as their counterpart versions, stripped of vocals, solely with instrumentation. Michael owns all of the publishing rights to each of these songs.
